Background

The General Administration of Population Statistics produces population projections at all levels, whether at the level of administrative divisions (republic/governorate/district/village/neighborhood) and the geographical scope (urban-rural), or at the age level (five-year/individual), or at the gender level (male/ feminine).

Population statistics are considered the basis for calculating most social and economic indicators, health, education and other various fields.

Methodology

General Censuses of Population, Housing, and Establishments are considered the basis for knowing the size of the population at the level of all administrative divisions approved in Republic, as well as their precise geographic and administrative distribution.

Using population projections, the number of populations, housing, and families is estimated annually for the periods between censuses, using exponential equations when the population situation is almost stable. ( That is, the annual population growth rate is constant.)

The most important Indicators

1-Total population according to projections of Republic .

 2-Resident population by type.

3- Gender ratio (number of males for every 100 females).

 4- Growth rate for2004 census.

5- Estimates of the number of families and dwellings.

 6- Age dependency ratio.
