President of Central Statistics Organization Welcomes European Delegation to Discuss the Status of CSO

President of Central Statistics Organization, Dr. Safa Mautee, welcomed a European delegation represented by Ms. Alia Aghajanian from World Bank, Mr. Steve Benson and the Bank’s partners, as well as the Deputy Resident Representative of United Nations Population Fund, Mr. Hisham Nehru, and the Population and Development Advisor at the United Nations Population Fund, Mr. Wells Odak.
Dr. Safa welcomed the delegation, each by name and title, stressing that this visit comes within the framework of working to expand the activity of the Central Statistics Organization at larger levels, which contributes to enhance the possibility of accessing and analyzing data in a better and more accurate way.
President of the Central Statistics Organization identified the challenges and difficulties facing the continuity of CSO’s work, in addition to the needs, whether in the Household Budget Survey or other areas, to ensure the continuity of work in collecting and analyzing data. She also addressed the request submitted by the Governor of Aden Governorate, Mr. Ahmed Hamed Lamlas, regarding conducting a census in the governorate with the aim of using it in development planning to improve the level of services and living conditions of the population.
Dr. Safa showed a number of plans, programs and work of Central Statistics Organization that are being worked on as a step towards raising the level of work and developing it in line with the development taking place in the technological world and the statistical and digital system in particular.
Ms. Alia Aghajanian ,the World Bank employee, pointed out the importance of implementing the Household Budget Survey in Yemen and coming up with clear indicators, as well as the possibility of adding special categories to this field survey.
The delegation stressed the support of the Central Statistics Organization during the coming period in the field of capacity building with the aim of enhancing cooperation. They also appreciated the efforts of the CSO employees for their work at various levels despite the difficult circumstances and few capabilities.
In addition, the directors of departments in the Population and Vital Statistics Sector, the Training Center, and Food Security Information Systems, each according to his specialization, provided a detailed explanation of the methodologies on the basis of which data is collected, as well as the difficulties that stand in the way of their implementation.
The meeting was also attended by Ms. Enas Mohsen Al-Awli from IMMAP, and Mr. Ahmed Fahmy, and Mr. Majed Al-Sarihi from UNFPA and a number of members of CSO from the relevant sectors
