Today, President of Central Statistics Organization met in Aden with the European delegation. Dr. Safa Mautee , president of CSO , clarified the role of the Central Statistics Organization in providing a realistic picture of the current population and economic situation through indicators that CSO is responsible to calculate through the data collected.
Dr.Safa Mautee also showed the importance of providing support for capacity building and providing technical support to produce modern data and indicators, which will address the current data gap, as most of the current economic indicators are estimates based on pre-war censuses and surveys and do not reflect the current situation in the best possible way. She also called for the need to support to start the household listing , housing and establishments census project. Dr. Safa Mautee also identified the most important challenges, which are the limited staff and the low of the CSO’s operating budget.
Dr.Safa Mautee, President of Central Statistics Organization also stressed on the importance and responsibility in providing a national database based on transparency and neutrality with CSO . In this context, she called on the European delegation to make their efforts to support CSO in establishing a digital data center that keeps pace with regional and international statistical agencies.
The members of the European delegation stressed on the importance of Central statistics Organization to know and read the current situation of the country in terms of population and economy, as well as monitoring the displacement situation. The European delegation expressed its interest in the Household Budget Survey (HBS) project funded by the World Bank.
Finally, President of Central Statistics Organization, Dr. Safa Mautee , and her technical team expressed their gratitude to European delegation for their keenness to come and meet the Central Statistics Organization and appreciate its national role.
